HOW WE WORK

BIOCLIME cooperates with different levels inside the Indonesian government, NGOs and universities as well as with local communities. It places emphasis on building bridges between district and provincial governments and providing a toolset for decision making on policy and land use planning suitable for leading to a national standard and supporting the Indonesian ONE MAP POLICY.

BIOCLIME is designed to act as a coordinating unit for all relevant activities in this field. By further developing data management and associated capacities, and by improving the reporting system, BIOCLIME ensures availability of continuously updated information through stocktaking and monitoring of existing forest ecosystems with simultaneous focus on biodiversity and biomass. This information will be used for protecting species diversity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions at the same time.

BIOCLIME pays special attention to further development of Forest Management Units (FMUs). As legally established entities with clear and permanently demarcated boundaries, FMUs are responsible for ensuring that all functions and services of forests in their areas are maintained, and that Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) is implemented.

BIOCLIME supports the participatory approach of FMUs active in the project area and develops tools to integrate local communities into decision-making processes.
With its focus on 5 pilot villages around vulnerable forest ecosystems, BIOCLIME supports the development of alternative sources of income and environmentally friendly land use. In doing so BIOCLIME cooperates closely with the GE-LAMA-I project (LINK to: in progress) whose focus is on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and Green Economy development, both of which come together in environmentally responsible spatial planning.

To achieve set goals, the project is divided into 5 Work Packages
