GENERAL INFO

BIOCLIME’s overall objective is to preserve biodiversity and the carbon sequestration capacity of selected forest ecosystems of South Sumatra as a contribution to the implementation of Indonesia’s emission reductions target. BIOCLIME supports district and provincial governments in their efforts to develop and implement conservation and management concepts for reducing emissions from their forests and conserving forest biodiversity in order to contribute to the GHG emission reduction goal and the achievement of the Aichi

Biodiversity Targets in Indonesia.

The project’s partner Institution is the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry, as the leading Ministry in the forestry and biodiversity sector.

BIOCLIME is embedded in Indonesia’s national strategies for biodiversity conservation and climate protection, poverty alleviation and decentralisation. The project contributes to the implementation of Indonesia’s Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IBSAP)

Based on improved databases, the project will - together with relevant stakeholders - select areas and ecosystems particularly worthy of conservation, and develop common concepts for their protection and sustainable management.

One crucial element will be the development of additional sources of income for the local communities. To achieve its goal the project team will strengthen management capacities of relevant public authorities, including those used to measure, monitor, report and verify (MRV) local contributions to the national GHG reduction target.
