In an effort to strengthen forest farmer groups (KTH) as they work towards the operation of independent and sustainable businesses, the Papua Province Forestry and Environment Service, working in conjunction with FORCLIME, held a recent training session on basic business development for KTH in supported villages in Jayapura, Papua Province from 25 to 28 July 2023. Initially, five villages were being supported in Papua Province, specifically: Dosai, Tablasupa, Babrongko, Wasur and Yanggandur. However, the last two of these villages have now been incorporated into South Papua Province. The training sessions were also aiming to strengthen Forest Management Units (KPH) in relation to the provision and facilitation of entrepreneurship and business development for KTH. The training, which was opened by the Head of the Forestry Planning Division of the Papua Province Forestry and Environment Service, Dr. Estiko Tri Wiradyo, SH, M.Sc., was organized by RIWANI Globe, a business development and human-capital consulting agency. Topics studied during this Basic Training included business group development, identification of business opportunities, market analysis and the preparation of simple business plans.
As a follow-up to this activity, online basic coaching sessions will soon be organized, followed by face-to-face advanced training and online advanced coaching sessions.

Following up on this decree, the Dinas LHKP held a meeting with Pokja PPS members on 28 July 2023 in the Meeting Room of the Southwest Papua Center for Conservation and Natural Resources (BBKSDA) in Sorong. The purpose of the meeting was to provide coordination in relation to the preparation of strategic and action plans, as well as to map out the distribution of roles and responsibilities among Pokja members in relation to the implementation of their activities. The meeting was opened by the Head of the Southwest Papua Province Environmental, Forestry and Agricultural Service, Mr. Julian Kelly Kambu ST., M.Sc., and was attended by Pokja PPS members and development partners from Southwest Papua Province.
During the meeting, the Head of Section II at BPSKL Maluku-Papua, Ms. Lilian Komaling, S.Hut., M.Sc., explained the Social Forestry Programme in Southwest Papua Province. Instruction was then given by the Head of the Southwest Papua Province Environmental, Forestry and Agricultural Service. In his presentation, Mr. Julian Kelly Kambu explained that Southwest Papua Province was to become a model for the acceleration of Social Forestry on the island of Papua. Several customary forests have already been legalized by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in Cen-tral Sulawesi Province. However, until now, the boundaries of these customary forests have not been properly delineated, while the relevant indigenous communities do not yet have any management plans for their specific customary forests. In preparation for the process of establishing customary forest boundaries within the province of Central Sulawesi, the Central Sulawesi Provincial Forestry Service, supported by FORCLIME, held a coordination meeting on 21 July 2023 in the meeting room of the Head of the Central Sulawesi Forestry Service. Also present at the meeting were representatives from Tadulako University, the Provincial Planning Agency (Bappeda), the Environment Agency, technical implementing units from the Ministry of Forestry in Central Sulawesi (the Social Forestry and Environmental Partnership Agency, the Lore Lindu National Park Center, the Forest Area Consolidation Center) and the Kulawi Forest Management Unit, as well as the KARSA Institute and the Central Sulawesi Customary Territory Registration Agency (BRWA). This coordination meeting addressed the activity plan for the determination of customary forest boundaries in Central Sulawesi while awaiting further regulations to be issued by the Ministry of Environ-ment and Forestry that specifically address said boundaries. The implementation of route determinations or boundary lines will be supervised by the Center for Consolidation of Forest Areas in Central Sulawesi.
