Compost Training

A training on production and application of compost as a means of soil improvement was conducted by GIZ on the 23rd of January as a follow-up to the tree nursery workshop conducted in December last year in Putussibau, Kapuas Hulu. Besides seeds, polybags, mineral soil and water high-quality compost is a key resource for the production of seedlings. The workshop was implemented in order to support the efforts of the Forest Management Unit (FMU) Kapuas Hulu Timur to establish a forest nursery, hence the participants were mainly FMU representatives. As a resource person the local compost producer from Putussibau, Lita Ernawati, shared her expertise and experiences with the participants.

Besides the main topic the participants also learned about agroforestry as Lita’s garden is a well-designed agroforestry system and about the cultivation of bacteria as a natural fertilizer. This was very inspiring and gave new impulses for further activities.
