Forest carbon and plant biodiversity inventory
GIZ BIOCLIME has recently developed guidelines (Panduan Survei Cadangan Karbon dan Keanekaragaman Hayati di Sumatera Selatan) for measuring and monitoring forest carbon and plant biodiversity in its project areas. The protocol has integrated and incorporated existing data collection mechanisms of carbon stocks and plant biodiversity at the management regime level through comprehensive consultations with stakeholders. According to the guidelines 140 sample plots were earmarked for the measurement of carbon and stocktaking of plant biodiversity.
Between 19. May and mid-july 2015 field measurement activities have been carried out in cooperation with the Forestry Research Agency of South Sumatra (Balai Penelitian Kehutanan Palembang), Sembilang National Park, REKI, KPH and local communities. A total of 15 sample plots have been measured in the mangrove forest of the district of Banyuasin, in the peat swamp forest in Merang, Kepayang and Petaling, and the district of Musi Banyuasin. From August to October 2015, field measurements will be conducted on the remaining sample plots in several important ecosystems, such as Sembilang National Park, Dangku Bentayan, Harapan Rainforest and Kerinci Seblat National Park.
The guidelines are currently only available in Bahasa Indonesia.
