Training for Farmer Groups about Forest and Land Rehabilitation Activities, Kapuas Hulu
With the purpose of improving the knowledge about technical, institutional and administrative issues related to the implementation of forest and land rehabilitation (Rehabilitasi Hutan dan Lahan-RHL), the District Plantation and Forestry Service of Kapuas Hulu together with GIZ-FORCLIME conducted a training for farmer groups from villages in Kapuas Hulu district from 27th to 29th of August, 2013 in Putussibau. 64 participants attended the training, representing the 16 forest farmer groups from the villages in Kapuas Hulu district, West Kalimantan.
After participating in the training, it is expected that local communities, particularly forest farmer groups, have gained more knowledge on the practical implementation of forest and land rehabilitation, including strengthened institutional organization of farmer groups and division of roles in the implementation of forest and land rehabilitation. Moreover, the training also aimed at strengthening community access to forest management.
Kapuas Hulu is one of the pilot districts of FORCLIME implementation activities on forest management and climate change. In addition, FORCLIME also engages in Malinau (North Kalimantan) and Berau district (East Kalimantan).

FORCLIME presents at Berau Expo, East Kalimantan
During Berau Expo, which was held due to the celebrations of the Berau district 60 years anniversary, FORCLIME together with the Forest Management Unit of Berau Barat (Kesatuan Pengelolaan Hutan Model Berau Barat) displayed the implementation and achievements of their collaborative activities. The 60 years anniversary celebration also commemorated the 203 years anniversary of the capital city of Berau district, Tanjung Redeb. The expo was held from 14th to 21st of September 2013 in Tanjung Redeb. Exhibitors of the expo came from technical units of the local government, the private sector, and from small and medium-sized enterprises.
Berau is one of FORCLIME’s pilot districts in East Kalimantan. Among recent activities conducted by FORCLIME in Berau was, for instance, a survey about the socio-economic situation of communities in the surroundings of the KPH Model Berau Barat. Training of Trainers on Competence Based Learning for Forestry Training Institutions
Following up on the workshop on Competence Based Learning (CBL) on 27th of August 2013, the Center of Forestry Education and Training (CFET) in collaboration with GIZ FORCLIME conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in Bogor, from June 2nd to September 6th 2013, in order to support the implementation of CBL in forestry education and training institutions in Indonesia. The purpose of this training was to increase knowledge and skills in implementing CBL as an active learning method in forestry training institutions.

The ToT was organized by the FORCLIME manager for Human Resource Capacity Development, Edy Marbyanto, and facilitated by Jolanda Buter, Aida Fitrini Friggia Aziz-Marien, and Edia Rahayuningsih, all hired by FORCLIME. Participants of the training were 26 officials and lecturers representing the CFET, the Forestry Training Centres (BDK) of Bogor, Kadipaten and Samarinda, and the Center for Planning and Development of Human Resources in the Ministry of Forestry (Pusrenbang SDMK).
Materials presented during the training include the general concept of CBL which consists of: (a) Principles of CBL; (2) Learning theory; (3) Introduction of the the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia - KKNI) and the Indonesian National Occupational Competency Standards (Standar Kompetensi Kerja Nasional Indonesia - SKKNI); (4) Training Needs Assessment (TNA); (5) Identification of competency and its elements; (6) Curriculum development based on the SKKNI; (7) Monitoring and evaluation of learning, and (8) Active learning.
In his closing speech, the Head of CFET expressed his appreciation for the activity and expected that such trainings will be able to support the improvement of public services for human resource development in the forestry sector in Indonesia. As a result, through its increased human resources for forestry, Indonesia will be able to successfully compete in the ASEAN open market from 2015 onwards.
