2021 12 08 Penilaian METT di TN Wasur tr 1

In an effort to assess the effectiveness of its area management, the Wasur National Park conducted a recent assessment that was carried out jointly with the relevant stakeholders so that the results would be objective. The management assessment, which was undertaken through the application of the Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) approach, was conducted from 7 - 8 December 2021 in Merauke, Papua. This activity, which was supported by FORCLIME, was opened by the Head of the Wasur National Park, Mr. Yarman, S.Hut., MP., and was attended by various development partners located in Papua Province, including academics, NGOs and local communities. The facilitators for the implementation of the METT were Dr. Peggy Awanti Nila Krisna from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and FORCLIME’s Senior Advisor, Dr. Ismet Khaeruddin.

In addition to evaluating the effectiveness of area management, this assessment was also aimed at the identification of problems, disturbances and threats relating to the management of national parks in general. In this regard, adaptation management will be implemented in accordance with the scale of any problems discovered.

This assessment related not only to the work of the national park but was initiated more broadly in order to discover what activities have been completed to date, including through programmes that are being implemented by the national park’s partners. As a result, the assessment provided opportunities for partners to develop appropriate priority programmes aimed at improving the management of the Wasur National Park.

The follow-up to this two-day activity involved the preparation of a resume of the METT assessment results that will be submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, which will then determine a METT value for the Wasur National Park for 2021.
