In order to coordinate regarding developments and future programme plans, the West Papua Provincial Forestry Service and FORCLIME held a coordination meeting on 19 May 2022 at the Forestry Service meeting room in Manokwari, West Papua. The meeting, which was opened by the Head of the West Papua Provincial Forestry Service, Ir. Runaweri F.H, MM., discussed the 2022 work plan, which includes the following initiatives:

  • Coaching clinic for the preparation of forest management plan (RPHJP) for forest management units (KPH) in West Papua Province. FORCLIME support will be provided to existing KPHs in working areas, namely KPHP Sorong and KPHL Tambrauw. It should be noted that this coaching clinic has not been organised as a one-time meeting but is an ongoing process and involves mentoring being carried out through several workshops. The KHP coaching clinic will be facilitated by the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Papua, with speakers and mentors being drawn from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) and its Forestry Technical Implementation Unit at the provincial level.
  • Training on Geospatial Information System (GIS) for KPH staff in West Papua Province will be carried out in collaboration with the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Papua.
  • The mentoring of Forest Farmers Groups (KTH) will be implemented by facilitators in FORCLIME supported villages, specifically the villages of Haha, Wendi in South Sorong KPHP, Emmaus and Bikar in Tambrauw KPHL, as well as customary forest initiatives in West Papua.
  • Leadership Training for forest management unit heads/managers in West Papua Province.

The coordination meeting also discussed the need to establish a KPH Forum in West Papua Province as a medium for communication and as a place to voice KPH requirements and the sharing of knowledge. This KPH forum can be formed if a new KPH organizational structure is first put in place.

On this occasion, FORCLIME Programme Director, Mr. Georg Buchholz, presented a Letter of Designation of Village Facilitator, who will be responsible for facilitating activities within FORCLIME supported villages.
