2021 12 08 coord meeting with Dinas KLH Papua for AWP 2022 tr 2 2

In order to prepare a priority programme for 2022 which will be implemented in conjunction with FORCLIME, the Papua Provincial Forestry and Environment Service held a coordination meeting on 8 December 2021 in Abepura, Jayapura City, Papua. The meeting was opened by Dr. Estiko Tri Wiradyo, SH. M.Si, the Head of the Forestry Planning Division at the Papua Provincial Forestry and Environment Service, and was also attended by the Director of Forestry and Water Resources Conservation at Bappenas, Dr Nur Hygiawati Rahayu, ST, MSc., As well as by FORCLIME’s Program Director, Georg Buchholz.

During the meeting, the Papua Provincial Forestry and Environment Service presented several programme proposals for joint implementation by the Papua Provincial Forestry and Environment Service and FORCLIME during 2022, including the following initiatives:
1. Strengthening of the REDD+ Working Group and carbon surveys.
2. Dissemination of regulations in the wake of the issuance of the Job-Creation Law.
3. Preparation of forest management plans by Production Forest Management Unit (KPHP) XXI and Protection Forest Management Unit (KPHL) XXIII.
4. Strengthening the capacities of forest farmer groups.
5. Promotion of non-timber forest products.
6. Promotion of the International Conference on Biodiversity, Ecotourism and Creative Economy (ICBE).

In terms of efforts to strengthen the Papua REDD+ Working Group, the Papua Provincial Forestry and Environment Service and members of the Papua REDD+ Working Group, supported by FORCLIME, undertook a study visit to the West Kalimantan REDD+ Working Group last November.

“The results of the visit of the Papua REDD+ Working Group to the West Kalimantan REDD+ Working Group, supported by FORCLIME, have been conveyed to the Head of the Papua Provincial Forestry and Environment Service. I also stated that one important lesson to learn should be the creation of a secretariat that will support the Working Group. In this regards, the Head of the Papua Provincial Forestry and Environment Service provides a direct secretariat to the Papua REDD+ Working Group," explained Dr Estiko Tri Wiradyo, SH. M.Si, Head of the Forestry Planning Division for Papua Province.

The results of this coordination meeting will be integrated into FORCLIME’s annual 2022 work plan.
