As a part of preparations for its upcoming joint activity with the University of Papua, FORCLIME’s West Papua Team held a coordinating meeting with the University of Papua’s Faculty of Forestry in Manokwari, West Papua on June 21, 2021. The FORCLIME contingent was led by its Strategic Area Manager for Sustainable Forest Management, Mohammad Sidiq, while the University of Papua (Unipa) was represented by the university’s Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Dr. Jonni Marwa.

The various joint programmes that are set for implementation include the community service programme (KKN) for Unipa students that will be conducted through an internship programme at FORCLIME. These interns will subsequently become involved in FORCLIME’s work programme in two target villages (Tambrauw and South Sorong). However, as the 2021 KKN period has already ended, these activities have been scheduled for 2022.

In 2019, FORCLIME organized an internship programme for students from the University of Papua and the University of Cenderawasih. During this period, seven new Unipa graduates enrolled in the internship programme and were placed with FORCLIME offices and work areas (in Jakarta, Bogor, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan and Central Sulawesi specifically). This internship programme continued in 2020, involving five people from Unipa and one student from the University of Ottow Geissler. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these internships were conducted online under the supervision of FORCLIME Advisers.

“We are grateful for the cooperation between FORCLIME and the Faculty of Forestry. Through this collaboration, our students are given the opportunity to take part in internships, moreover, some have been recruited as FORCLIME staff,” explained Dr. Jonni Marwa, Dean of Papua University’s Faculty of Forestry.
