Continuing the stages in preparing the Green Climate Fund (GCF) proposal, the West Kalimantan Province Environment and Forestry Service held a consultation with parties to prepare a safeguards framework document (ESS, GAP, IPP) on 17 April 2023 in Pontianak, West Kalimantan. This activity was carried out to obtain inputs from parties at the provincial level as part of preparations for implementing consultations at the district level which will be carried out later. In this meeting, resource persons from each document were present, including those drafting the Environmental and Social Safeguard Framework (ESS), Gender Study and Gender Action Plan (GA-GAP) and Indigenous Community Plan (IPP), as well as representatives from provincial government institutions, including Environment and Forestry Service and related agencies, West Kalimantan REDD Working Group, academics and development partners.

The meeting commenced with directions and remarks from the Head of the Provincial Environment and Forestry Service who also officially opened the event. In his direction, he conveyed the progress and achievements of West Kalimantan Province in emission reduction actions for the 2012-2018 period and the commitment of the West Kalimantan Provincial Government to climate change mitigation and adaptation actions by implementing the strategic plan documents that have been prepared.

Inputs from the parties in this consultation will be used as material for preparing documents for the stakeholder consultation at the district level which is planned to be held in May 2023 in five intervention districts, namely Ketapang, Kubu Raya, Sintang, Sanggau and Kapuas Hulu.
