In an effort to strengthen the role of the West Kalimantan REDD+ Working Group as a medium of communication and coordination between stakeholders within West Kalimantan Province in relation to efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change, the Environment and Forestry Service of West Kalimantan Province held a recent meeting that discussed institutional changes to the REDD+ Working Group. The meeting was facilitated by FORCLIME and was held on 9 December 2021 at the Secretariat of the West Kalimantan REDD+ Working Group. The meeting was opened by the Head of the Environmental Management and Monitoring Division of the Environment and Forestry Service of West Kalimantan, Ms. Yenny S.Hut, MT and was attended by members of the REDD+ working group that comprised representatives drawn from government and non-government organizations.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the potential addition of a new unit to the working group, the reinforcement of the secretariat and broader stakeholder involvement. The meeting resulted in a draft Regulation of the Governor on the REDD+ Working Group that the relevant stakeholders subsequently held a consultation on during the third week of December 2021.
