Integrated Operation of Mitigation of Illegal Logging in Bayung Lencir Sub-District PDF Print E-mail

The closure of access road for illegal logging in the North of Merang and Buring River, Bayung Lencir Sub-District, Musi Banyuasin District 

Palembang. –On the 12 July 2010, suppressing illegal logging operation had been undertaken by Integrated Team against Illegal Logging (ITAIL) of Bayu Lencir Sub-District in Musi Banyuasin (MUBA) District of South Sumatera Province. ITAL is headed by H. Hidayat Nawawi SP, The Head of UPTD KPHP Lalan Mangsang Mendis. The team consists of elements of  District Forestry Agency, Police, Military, Forest Rangers, SPORC, Sub-District Security, Community Forest Rangers, Muara Merang and Kepayang Village Administrators supported by GTZ Merang REDD Pilot Project and PT RHM.

Planned 5-year peatland moratorium seen as ‘half-hearted government policy’ PDF Print E-mail

The government initiative to entail a five-year moratorium on peatland conversion is a half-hearted policy if the country still wants to seriously mitigate climate change, activists said Saturday.

They said the moratorium to shift the peatland for business use should be permanent since the
area held huge stocks of carbon emissions.

Harimau yang tertangkap ini merupakan individu ketiga yang tertangkap dengan menggunakan listrik di dekat wilayah proyek kita selama proyek MRPP. Sebenarnya para pemburu tersebut bukan untuk tujuan menangkap Harimau tapi menangkap rusa. Individu pertama tertangkap  tanggal  07 September 2009 dan individu kedua tertangkap 12 Oktober 2009. Kedua individu tersebut tertangkap di Sungai Tembesu Daro, daerah Merang Kecamatan Bayu Lencir, Kabupaten MUBA, Sumatera Selatan di areal GTZ Merang REDD Pilot Project.

Having already lost two of its indigenous tiger species, Indonesia is now looking for money — and courting controversy — with a brace of plans to boost the number of Sumatran tigers in the wild.
The government recently announced a plan to double the tiger’s population by 2022 from current levels, based on a commitment agreed to by 13 countries in October in Kathmandu, Nepal.
