The dome is located precisely between Medak and Kepayang rivers. The Merang River flows in the middle of the dome. The Medak, Merang and Kepahiyang Rivers are tributaries of River Lalan. The Merang river has many tributaries, among others Cangkak River, Buring River, Beruhun River and Bawo River. These rivers are part of Lalan watershed which empties into Bangka Strait..

There are more than 100 ditches or small canals in MPDF built by illegal loggers for extracting timber to the main rivers. The canals have a width of between 1.7meters to 2 meters and a depth of about 0.5 meters. The canals have various lengths of up to 5 km depending on the availability of potential timber. Some canals blocking have been done in cooperation with local NGO to avoid drained peat dome during dry season.
