On 26 November 2019 the Kubu Raya Regent and plantation and forestry companies in Kubu Raya Regency signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on forest and land fire prevention programme (karhutla). The MoU describes that related to the prevention and control of forest and land fire, the plantation and forestry companies will provide facilities and infrastructure, establish a task force and a regular awareness raising, provide social and environmental responsibility (corporate social responsibility-CSR) funds. The signing was carried out in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, during an evaluation meeting of the implementation of forest and land fire management in 2019, additionally, the meeting also discussed about synergizing fire prevention planning in Kubu Raya Regency for 2020.
At the end of the meeting, the Head of the Kubu Raya Forest Management Unit (KPH), Amung Hidayat, handed an indicative map of the wells in KPH Kubu Raya area to the Regent. The developed map presents the locations that frequently occur fires, hotspot distribution, and peat depth. The preparation of the map is supported by FORCLIME, a bilateral cooperation programme between the Indonesian and the German governments on forests and climate change.
