The Minister for Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Dr. Siti Surbaya, received the 2018 gender mainstreaming award, the Anugerah Parahita Ekapraya (APE), which was handed over by the Vice President on 19 December 2018 at the Vice President's Palace, Jakarta. The Government honours the award to ministries/institutions that have shown a commitment to mainstream gender equality and empowerment of women into their programmes and activities, created innovations in the implementation of gender equality and assist on Gender Mainstreaming to other ministries/institutions and local governments. There are four categories of APE, namely Pratama, Madya, Utama, and Mentor. In 2018, the KLHK received the highest category, the Mentor. In 2016 the Ministry of Environment and Forestry received the Utama category. In addition to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the 2018 APE Mentor was also given to the National Planning and Development agency (Bappenas), the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Affairs.

One of the differences between Utama and Mentor categories is that KLHK has developed innovations on activities implemented at site levels in the districts: Agam (West Sumatra), Waingapu (East Nusa Tenggara), and in the demonstration areas of FORCLIME. Since 2013, FORCLIME consistently has supported gender mainstreaming activities at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and will continue to provide support to the Ministry’s Gender Mainstreaming Working Group.
