Illegal Logging Combating Measures

The Expert Panel on MRPP organized Illegal Logging workshop in November 2009 and agreed to speed up the process of combating illegal logging. The panel consisted of representatives from the Ministry of Forestry, the Head of Local Parliament (DPRD Muba), the Forestry Service of South Sumatra Province and the Forestry Service of Muba District. They all committed themselves to tackle the case of illegal logging particularly in the forest production area of Merang Kepayang, KPHP Lalan.

The stakeholders demanded the multi stakeholder action plan including the identification of strategic objectives, among others were synergy, commitment, law enforcement and accompanying process in mitigating rampant illegal logging.

The key indicators of success that are in line with the strategic objectives. The purpose was to provide the alternative options for finding the solutions to these forestry crime cases, and followed by the recommendation of law enforcement actions. The crucial parts of all these actions identified were the availability of equipments, infrastructure and communication tools and budget support.

The workshop made the declaration as an effective measures to mitigate illegal logging in the MRPP area.
