Financing KPH workshop EastKal

Responding to the challenges of sustainable Forest Management Unit (KPH) operations, the East Kalimantan KPH Center, which is composed  of stakeholders involved in FMU development,  conducted a two-day meeting on “Sustainable Financing of Forest Management Unit Development and business” on April 24-25 in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The meeting that aimed to discuss several financial challenges, such as the limitation of government financial resources, was attended by representatives of KPHs in East Kalimantan, the private sector, forestry offices and civil society organizations. This event was held in collaboration with the Forestry Service, the Climate Change Regional Council (Dewan Daerah Perubahan Iklim-DDPI), GIZ, the Global Green Growth Institute and The Nature Conservancy.

During his opening speech, the Head of Forestry Service emphasized that the availability of adequate financial resources is vital to ensure FMU operations and become a self-reliant organization.

During the meeting, participants discussed different sources of funding and financial support such as private investment, public investment, public private partnerships, different sources of fund convergences, national and international sustainable forest management and carbon funds.
