The Forestry Service of East Kalimantan Province, supported by FORCLIME, organized a study tour to the Forest Management Unit (FMU) of Rinjani Barat in West Nusa Tenggara. The objective of the visit was to obtain information and knowledge about the experiences and achievements made by the FMU Rinjani Barat, particularly on aspects such as institutional and financial mechanisms, the challenges faced by an FMU, as well as the strategic steps taken to tackle these challenges.

Participants of the study tour were representatives from the Forestry Service of East Kalimantan Province, the Provincial Secretariat of East Kalimantan, the Forestry Service of Malinau District, and FORCLIME. After the study tour, participants are expected to take home lessons learnt about the institution and management of an FMU.

Currently, the provincial government of East Kalimantan, for example, is already reviewing the concept of an FMU organizational structure, and analyzing duties and functions of the FMU personnel. Also, the government of Malinau District plans to undertake public consultations to receive input for an academic paper on FMU development in Malinau District.
